Spring skin refresh?

Well, technically it’s spring even if it doesn’t feel like it, and I find at this time of year, when the light gets a bit brighter, my skin looks like it could do with a bit of pepping up after the winter. Hence the choice of products: a radiance-boosting ‘gommage’ from Gatineau, a plumping and freshening facemask from Beauty Kitchen, a moisturiser from Nurture specially designed for older skin and a super-effective skin protector from Exuviance with SPF50 which such a nice finish to it that I find I wear it instead of foundation.

What's in the box?

The details...

This describes itself as 'an enzymatic exfoliator with a powerful anti-ageing action that removes dead skin cells while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Essential oils nourish skin and boost suppleness while extracts of sweet almond oil and cranberry hydrate and plump wrinkles. Skin is moisturised, nourished and refreshed for a smoother and more radiant complexion.'

Why I love it:  "This is one of those iconic, expert beauty products that has stood the test of time and is brilliant for brightening the skin and making your whole complexion look fresher. I love it because it gives a gentle, thorough, physical exfoliation without scratching or roughing up the skin. You massage it on and keep massaging (see video, below) and gradually, the dead skin just rolls off."

This product describes itself as 'the next big breakthrough in mineral sunscreen, delivering triple anti-ageing broad spectrum UVA/UVB sun protection with no chalky residue.'

Why I love it: "I’m always going on about the need for sun-protection and this is one of my favourite recent discoveries. It’s a really effective broad-spectrum sunscreen, it has added antioxidants to help your skin protect itself against the environment and it has a very slight tint just so that it looks lovely on the skin. It’s a mineral sunscreen, so it’s great for all skin types including sensitive skin, and it’s fragrance free, too. "

This is a best-seller within the 'Replenish' range from Nurture: "It contains Lipobelle Soyaglycone, a more active form of phytoestrogens. These have been shown to improve skin density by up to 17%, and reduce lines and wrinkles. Lipobelle Soyaglycone contains isoflavones from soybean, these bind to oestrogen receptors which activates collagen production which is typically reduced during and after the menopause." Even better, it has been shown in trials to make skin look five years younger.

Why I love it: "Older skin needs extra help and the whole Replenish range from Nurture is designed for skin that is approaching, or going through, or has gone through, the menopause. The added extras here are plant oestrogens (phyto-oestrogens) which help older, drier skin to hold onto moisture. It’s a rich day cream and helps improve skin metabolism, so your skin looks brighter and healthier. And it has SPF15 too, which is a big plus for me, so it’s a really good everyday day cream."

This lovely little mask describes itself as follows: "Beauty Kitchen Seahorse Plankton 5 Minute Miracle Mask is a 100% natural face mask containing biologically proven seahorse plankton microalgae for an instant skin detox that cleanses stimulates, firms and plumps skin."

Why I love it: "If the word ‘seahorse’ has got you worried, rest assured - this lovely mask is made IN AID OF seahorses (2% of the price goes to the UK Seahorse Trust), not from seahorses (what were you thinking?). It’s made from a marine algae that seahorses like to eat, which is full of omega-3 essential fatty acids and it leaves skin plumped up and radiant in just five minutes. And it has fans in high places: it was shortlisted in the Best New Mass-Market Skincare Treatment Product at the prestigious Cosmetic Executive Women Beauty Awards."
