Hello

I'm a beauty journalist blogging about what really works from cosmetics to cosmetic surgery.

JAPONESQUE

JAPONESQUE

For chic make-up application.

What is it? It’s the biggest maker of beauty tools globally. The brand was created by a make-up artist 20 years ago, but was bought by Karen McKay, now its president,  2002. Since then the company has been supplying top beauty houses with the brushes under a private label and now Karen has launched a colour collection, exclusive to John Lewis.

What’s the USP? The range and the accessories have been designed for professional use and are lovely to use but not too expensive. The new make-up is all about great colours and long-wear textures, in super-pretty packaging.

Hero product? Probably the brushes (from £10, Johnlewis.com), some of which have handles angled at 150 degress to make application easier.

Why the name? Because of the Japanese Kabuki brushes that inspired the launch of the brand.

How new is it? The make-up collection launched in Autumn 2013 in the UK.

I’d try... The make-up range such as the Luminous Foundation (£24) in ten different shades or the quad eye-shadow palettes (£24).
